Stefanos Tsitsipas v J.J. Wolf Head to Head

Tsitsipas demolished Wolf 6-1, 6-0 in their only meeting in Acapulco this year.

It’s Been an Up and Down Year for Tsitsipas

Knocked out by Jenson Brooksby in the third round at Indian Wells, world No. 5 Stefanos Tsitsipas will hope to put that setback behind and make a solid start in Miami.

Barring the Indian Wells Open and the ATP Cup, the Greek has reached at least the quarterfinals of all the other tournaments this year. A seven-time champion on the tour, Tsitsipas reached an 18th career final in Rotterdam, but missed out on the title after falling to Felix Auger-Aliassime.

The 2021 French Open finalist, who reached the semifinal of the Australian Open for a third time this year, was also a semifinalist in Acapulco and suffered a shock quarterfinal defeat to Roman Safiullin in Marseille during the up-and-down season.

The 23-year-old comes to Miami with a 15-6 record. He will be hoping to at least match his previous year’s performance when he reached the last eight before falling to the eventual champion Hubert Hurkacz.

Qualifier Wolf Marches Into Second Round

World No. 167 J.J. Wolf of the United States knocked out Germany’s Daniel Altmaier in straight sets to advance to the second round on his Miami Open debut.

Wolf got a break in the very first game of the match, but Altmaier broke back immediately. However, the American got a second break in the ninth game before sealing the first set. He took control of the second set getting the only break in the seventh game and then closed out the match for a 6-4, 6-4 victory.

Wolf had qualified for the main draw with straight sets wins over America’s Sam Querrey and Kazakhstan’s Dmitry Popko.

The 23-year-old has had a good couple of weeks, as he won his first Masters 1000 match in Indian Wells, and also reached the semifinals of the Phoenix Challenger. He also reached the Round of 16 in Acapulco. Having improved his tour-level record to 3-2 this season, he will be hoping to get a few more wins under his belt so he can break into the top 100. His career best ranking is 120.
