Belinda Bencic v Heather Watson Head to Head
It’s 1-0 to Watson although, that sole win over the Swiss No. 1 came back in the 2014 edition of the Indian Wells Open.

World No. 115 Heather Watson has all the makings of being a dark horse in this year’s Miami Open. Having made it to the third round here, the Brit has posted one of her best results on the tour since reaching the semis in Birmingham last season.
Since then, she has fallen mainly in the early rounds without making much of an impact – at least until now.
After defeating Arantxa Rus 6-7(5), 7-5, 6-4 in the first match, Watson knocked out the number 15 seed Elina Svitolina 4-6, 6-3, 7-6(4). In these matches, the 29-year-old has clearly shown some grit and a sheer determination to fight hard.
So far in 2022, her previous best run came in the Australian Open when she made it to round two.

Bencic Stuns Kostyuk
Belinda Bencic was off to a flying start in Florida as she dispatched Marta Kostyuk 6-3, 6-1. The number 22 seed will now look to turn around what has largely been an underwhelming season.
Except for a couple of quarterfinal stints in Sydney and St. Petersburg, the Swiss has had to settle for early losses. Notably, in Doha and Indian Wells, Bencic was overpowered in her first match itself by Clara Tauson and Kaia Kanepi respectively.
Currently ranked World No. 28, her form has also taken a slight drop over the last two seasons owing to a dearth of solid results. Last year, she bagged a couple of runner-up trophies in Adelaide and Berlin along with winning the Tokyo Olympics gold.
However, Bencic contracted Covid-19 towards the end of the season which has arguably taken a toll on her health.
Bencic v Watson Prediction and Tip
Watson does make for a compelling bet here given the high odds as well as her recent, inspired form. But Bencic’s understanding of the game is far superior, supplemented only by her experience of making it deep in big events.
This can be a tricky match for both players but we may be in store for a long affair.
