Five-time tour-level champion Alex de Minaur has been playing well this season. He reached the last 16 of the Australian Open for the first time in his career, and also made it to the fourth round of the Indian Wells Open for the second consecutive year.
The 23-year-old was also a quarterfinalist in Rotterdam and won both his singles matches against Hungary at the Davis Cup.
Seeded No. 25, De Minaur is yet to win a match in Miami. This is his third main draw appearance. While he lost in the first round in 2018, he was knocked out by Daniel Galan in the second round last year.
A winner of two titles last year, the fast and agile De Minaur will be aiming for a bright start in Miami.

Thompson Rallies Past Tsonga
Jordan Thompson has come under fire for his act of smashing the ball into the crowd which forced a ballgirl, standing close-by, to duck.
But despite the criticism, the World no. 78 moved into the second round with a tough come-from-behind win over 2008 Australian Open finalist Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
After both broke each other’s serves in the first two games of the match, the set needed a tiebreak to decide the winner and it was Tsonga who dominated it to win the first set. Thompson raised his game over the next two sets and broke the Frenchman twice, once in the second and once in the third to advance with a 6-7 (1-7), 6-4, 6-4 win in two hours and 42 minutes.
The win improved Thompson to 6-6 this season. He was a quarterfinalist in Dallas but hasn’t won two consecutive matches in the other tournaments.
De Minaur v Thompson Prediction and Tip
Di Minaur is higher ranked and also has a superior record against the fellow Australian. Expect the 25th seed to start his campaign with a win.
