Australia’s Daria Saville marched into the fourth round at the Miami Open to remain strong on her comeback trail after having missed close to 10 months of action last year due to an Achilles tendon surgery.
Currently ranked 249, the former No. 20 is trying to make her way back up the rankings. She had a strong showing in Indian Wells as well, where as a qualifier she reached the Round of 16.
In Miami, Saville knocked out doubles No. 1 Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic. Siniakova was hampered by an injury and couldn’t complete the match, withdrawing after Saville had raced to a 6-0, 1-0 lead.
Saville had begun the tournament with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Belgium’s Greet Minnen and didn’t drop a set in the second round either, defeating France’s Harmony Tan 6-4, 6-2. She was even more impressive in the third round, dropping just four points on her serve before the match came to an abrupt end.
Having matched her previous best in Miami, which was a run to the fourth round in 2015, Saville will now be aiming for a maiden quarterfinal spot in the tournament.

Bronzetti Through After Kalinskaya Retirement
Playing at a WTA 1000 event for the first time, Lucia Bronzetti moved into the fourth round of the tournament after her third round opponent Anna Kalinskaya retired without taking the court due to an injury.
The 102nd ranked Italian, who made her Australian Open main draw debut this year and won her first round match, has looked in great touch in the tournament. She came through the qualifiers with a comeback win over Lesley Pattinama Kerkhove and an easy straight sets outing against Wang Qiang and then stunned Australia’s Ajla Tomljanović in the first round.
Bronzetti lost the first set against Tomljanovic, but made a gritty comeback, saving a match point in the second set and winning the contest 4-6, 7-6 (8-6), 6-2.
The second round turned out to be an easier one for the 23-year-old, as she rolled past Stefanie Vogele 6-2, 6-1. She will be hoping to reach her first big final on Monday.
