Last year’s semifinalist Roberto Bautista Agut got off to a flying start in Miami, knocking out Poland’s Kamil Majchrzak 6-3, 6-3.
The win improved the World No. 17 to 16-5 this season and that includes a title in Doha, his 10th ATP trophy.
Bautista Agut, who led Spain to the final of the ATP Cup at the start of the season, only to lose his singles match in the final, outplayed the 75th-ranked Majchrzak in the first set with two breaks of serve. He was broken early in the second set but seized the initiative back with two breaks to beat the Pole in an hour and 15 minutes.
The Spaniard, who defeated Nikoloz Basilashvili for the Qatar Open title, was edged out by last year’s runner-up Jannik Sinner in a dramatic three-set semifinal in 2021. Having also reached the quarterfinal in 2019, the 33-year-old 15th seed will be hoping for another deep run this season.

Brooksby Takes Out the 18th Seed
Jenson Brooksby piled more misery on the struggling Nikoloz Basilashvili as he eased past the Georgian to reach the third round of the Miami Open.
On his main draw debut in Miami, the 21-year-old converted five of five break points while saving one of two to dump out the 18th seed 6-3, 6-1 in just 71 minutes. It was a far easier win for the World no. 39, who had to fight back from a set down to beat Argentina’s Federico Coria in the first round.
Brooksby, who was a finalist at the Dallas Open earlier this year, was outplayed by the Argentine in the first set, but he made a solid recovery over the next two sets to win 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Following his second round victory over Basilashvili, Brooksby has now improved to 8-3 for the season. Having made it to the fourth round in Indian Wells, he will be hoping to reach a consecutive fourth round at an ATP 1000 tournament in Miami.

Expect this to be a thrilling contest with the match going the distance. While Bautista Agut is more experienced and higher-ranked, he could still be beaten by the up and coming star.
