Paula Badosa v Belinda Bencic Head to Head
They played three times before and Badosa won all three times. The most recent one came in Sydney this year with the Spaniard winning 7-6(6) 3-6 6-3.

Paula Badosa made a huge leap last year that culminated with her winning the Indian Wells Masters. It allowed her to solidify herself as one of the best players in the world and she also took part in the WTA Finals in Guadalajara. This season was all about continuing that run and she has been doing just that.
A trophy in Sydney started it and since then it’s been a rather good run for the Spaniard. 18-6 on the season is quite impressive and she jumped all the way up to world number 3. Charleston is a familiar place for her as she played in the semifinal here last year.
Losing to Kudermetova was tough but she returned with hopes of bettering that result this year. So far it’s been good with two strong wins with a chance to advance to the semifinal.

Bencic Finding Form in Miami
Belinda Bencic is having a solid year despite not many results that would make you go wow. The Swiss player is building upon a very well last year when she won the Olympic Gold in Tokyo seemingly out of nowhere. Titles are still missing for her but consistency is key to getting her where she was.
Charleston is a very familiar place for her as she played three times here before with the quarterfinal being her best result. She has a chance to go further this time around and she just might consider her strong form lately. The semifinal in Miami raised her confidence quite a bit and she’s been playing well here.
The record for the year is 12-6 and it’s only going to become better.
Badosa v Bencic Prediction and Tip
This is a very interesting matchup between two players who are playing rather well. Both are familiar with the event and the conditions so nobody will have a clear advantage there. Badosa is far more comfortable on clay than her opponent so that’s an edge.
Another edge is her 3-0 H2H record against Bencic which indicates that something in the matchup simply suits her. One of those matches was played last year in Charleston and Badosa won it in three sets. Actually, two of the three sets they played were in three sets so things are pretty close generally.
I expect things to be quite similar this time around. Bencic is playing a bit better at the moment but the fighting spirit of Badosa should not be underestimated. I think we will see three sets so the over on games is something worth considering seriously. When it comes to the winner, I’ll back Badosa until she proves me wrong.
