Pablo Carreno Busta v Alexander Bublik Head to Head
It is 2-0 to Busta who last defeated Bublik in ATP Chengdu 2019 final. This will be their first meeting on clay courts.

Playing in his first clay match of the season, Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik is off to a great start to the next leg of the tour. He defeated the Swiss wildcard Stan Wawrinka 3-6, 7-5, 6-2, who himself was playing in his first match in over a year. With this win, the 24-year-old has also posted his best results in Monte-Carlo.
Compared to Busta, Bublik may be low on experience but he makes up for it with exceptional passion, sportsmanship, and skills. Currently ranked World No. 36, he was at this career-best as #30 just in January and there is no reason why he can’t rise further.
That said, he will need to up his consistency levels. With the exception of winning the ATP Montpellier, Bublik has lost in the opening rounds of every tournament this year.
He most recently participated in the Miami Open where fell to Casper Ruud in round two; it was the same story in Indian Wells but there, he did beat Andy Murray in the first round.
Bublik has some experience with clay but it isn’t entirely convincing. His sole highlight on the surface came at the 2021 French Open when he was the doubles runner-up with Andrey Golubev.

Busta Stammers against Baez
Pablo Carreno Busta found himself in a spirited affair with the 21-year-old rising star Sebastian Baez. The match went for three sets with the Spaniard ultimately taking the win with 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.
In all likelihood, the same may happen with Bublik too; their past two meetings have gone to the decider and Busta will need to up his game a bit.
The world number 19 is coming off a bleak run – since reaching the final at the ATP Cup and round four in the Australian Open, he hasn’t particularly fared well. Like Bublik, Busta too succumbed in the early rounds in the two Masters events in March.
Nonetheless, the fact remains that he is well experienced and has a comparatively better pedigree on clay. He is a two-time French Open quarterfinalist and most recently, won two clay titles in 2021.

Pablo Carreno Busta has a better chance of bagging this but those odds can move quickly when Bublik gathers rhythm in the match. At 4/1, Bublik even makes for a pretty appealing bet if you are looking to let a bit of luck make its play too. On the safer side, this match can very well be a long one.
