While Schwartzman’s still a few notches below his career-best ranking of number eight on the ATP charts, he shown enough confidence on clay this season already.
After having had a middling start to the season in Australia, three solid performances on the clay courts of Cordoba, Buenos Aires and Rio followed soon after.

Schwartzman will now look to kick things off in Barcelona with an easy win over a struggling McKenzie.

McDonald Grinds to Tough Win
It took an already-struggling McDonald three sets to get past the 156th-ranked Hugo Grenier in his opening round encounter.
In a match lasting two hours and 45 minutes, McDonald overcame the loss of the first set to complete a 6-7 (2), 6-1, 7-6 (2) win over his French opponent.
The match was filled with breaks of serves as McDonald lost his serve five times while Grenier was broken eight times. In fact, the final set began with four successive breaks of serves before McDonald was broken again in the 11th game.
Fortunately for him, Grenier failed to serve out the match and McDonald went on to clinch the encounter in a tie-breaker.
This kind of a scrappy encounter was on the lines of how things have been this season for the 1/4 favourite McDonald this season. He will need to do a lot better to even put up a show against Schwartzman, forget win it.

This looks to be a straightforward one for Schwartzman as he looks to run away with the match in straight sets against a very struggling opponent.
