Cameron Norrie v Egor Gerasimov Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came in the qualifiers of the 2019 Paris Masters and a match that saw a final set tie-breaker was won by Norrie. Things have gone drastically differently for both players since then.

Norrie Makes Inauspicious Start on Clay

Having hit his career-best ranking of 10th in the world, Norrie would have expected to make a better start to his clay court campaign. That’s not how it panned out though.

The Brit was beaten in his second round match at Monte-Carlo Masters by Albert Ramos-Vinolas in three sets, crashing out after getting an opening round bye.

This isn’t to say Norrie doesn’t do too well on clay given how the previous season had transpired. He had made it to the final in Estoril – where he lost to Ramos-Vinolas as well – and then another final on clay in Lyon where he fell to Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Earlier this year, Norrie has already won a title and was a losing finalist to Rafael Nadal in Acapulco.

What he would love to do is to make a quick transition to clay and kick-start the rest of the red dirt season with an easy win.

Gerasimov’s Struggles Pushing Him Down the Charts

Once ranked 65th in the world, Gerasimov hasn’t had the best of times since the start of 2021 and that has shown to have an effect on his rankings.

The Belarusian is now 155th on the ATP charts and gasping for main draw victories.

Having made it to the second round here last season too, Gerasimov had a reasonable start to the season when he qualified for the Adelaide International and won a couple of rounds to march into the quarterfinals.

But things have gone south since. Gerasimov has featured in nine tournaments, including one on the Challenger circuit and hasn’t won a single main draw encounter. There have been qualifying wins, but in four of them he has failed to even make the main draw.

And while Norrie hasn’t had the best of starts to clay either, it might not be the easiest second round matches for the Belarusian.

Norrie v Gerasimov Prediction and Tip

Norrie’s opening exit at Monte-Carlo notwithstanding, this is his match to lose. Expect a straight-set victory for the Brit.

Tip: Norrie to win in straight sets: 1/2 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
