Felix Auger-Aliassime v Carlos Taberner Head to Head

They have never played against each other.

New Year, Same Struggles for Auger-Aliassime

Felix Auger-Aliassime had a terrible clay season posting only a 4-6 record on the year. Most of those defeats were quite terrible against worse playres which makes things quite disappointing. It also came after he announced a partnership with Toni Nadal specifically to improve his clay game.

Well, Uncle Toni is back this year as well but the struggles continued this year. He has a 1-2 record on clay so far this year and things did not look pretty in Monte-Carlo. His movement is not that great and his timing suffers. Many mistakes later he finds himself shaking hands with his opponent.

He needs wins to build up his confidence ahead of the French Open and he clearly is capable of winning because he started the year off superbly. Many thought it was going to be this major breakout but once again some old demons returned.

Here Comes Taberner

Carlos Taberner as a native Spanish player is superb on clay, it’s just how they make them in Spain. His movement is great, his forehand works well on this surface and generally is his best weapon. The Spaniard got quite lucky in the first round facing a very dejected Sebastian Korda who did not want to play tennis at all.

A 6-3 6-0 win looks very impressive on the resume and while Tabener did play well it’s not quite realistic. The win was great but he’s some great tennis player that will have a run to the final. He is very capable of taking out players that are battling confidence woes, players like Auger-Aliassime.

The Spaniard is full of confidence after his stunning win over Korda and he will look to continue playing like that. He won’t feel any pressure and that makes him very dangerous.

Auger-Aliassime v Taberner Prediction and Tip

Felix Auger-Aliassime will have a very tough time against Taberner simply because the Spaniard is buzzing after a huge win over Korda as well as generally feeling rather comfortable on native soil. Auger has shown nothing that would fill me or anybody else with confidence in his clay level.

He is certainly capable of botching it again and I actually think there is a lot of value on Taberner. I’m pretty certain the Spaniard will get at least one set in so that might be something worth looking at. I’m feeling rather bold so I’m going to back him to win. Take Taberner for the upset, I don’t feel comfortable with Auger in this spot, at all.

Tip: Taberner to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
