Diego Schwartzman v Lorenzo Musetti Head to Head

They played two times before with each player winning one match. Their latest came last week in Monte Carlo where Schwartzman won 2-6 6-4 6-3.

Diego Bouncing Back From Monte-Carlo Collapse

Schwartzman has won 12 matches on clay this year and he almost made it one more last week at the MOnte-Carlo Masters. After battling back from a break back in the 2nd set against Stefanos Tsitsipas, Schwarzman went up 4-0 in the final set with a golden chance to secure the semifinal.

He lost that match after an epic collapse late in the match where you could sense the doubt in his eyes. It’s a tough thing to bounce back from but he did rather well in Barcelona winning his first match against Mackenzie McDonald 6-2 6-2.

It was an overall great performance from ‘El Peque’ who is playing really good clay tennis at the moment. He will certainly look to keep things going strong in Barcelona and another chance to go against a familiar face should be exciting.

Musetti Finding Form on Clay

Lorenzo Musetti had a shaky start to the year but the Italian is finally playing some decent tennis this year. It’s no surprise it came after the Tour shifted to clay as it’s his best surface by far. He’s got a pretty game to watch with great movement around the court and a beautiful backhand.

Consistency is an issue as he tends to complicate things a lot for himself with his propensity to play ‘pretty tennis’ instead of an efficient one. His forehand also has ways to go and overall he’s a great talent that needs to improve. 11-10 is the score this year with 7-2 on clay.

So far in Barcelona, a strong win against Sebastian Baez in round one with an even better performance against Dan Evans in round 2. All of that should do him well confidence-wise against a player who bested him not long ago.

Schwartzman v Musetti Prediction and Tip

So they played a match last week in Monte-Carlo that was rather interesting. Musetti came out strong dominating the early rallies and giving Schwartzman a lot of problems. The Italian snatched that set with 6-2 before getting an early break early in the 2nd.

He did not cruise to a win as Schwartzman battled back to take the first and then the 2nd. I expect something similar this week as both have looked rather good in their first match. Schwartzman is a better baseline player and you can expect a good effort from him while Musetti is the wild card.

Can he get the job done this week? Perhaps, but I once again expect Schwartzman to be a problem solver. Musetti looked quite powerless once Schwartzman figured things out in that match and I’ll back the Argentine to do that once more.

Tip: Schwartzman to win in straight sets: 1/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
