Casper Ruud v Emil Ruusuvuori Head to Head

Ruud won their only meeting at the U.S. Open in 2020.

Ruud Too Strong for Nakashima

Second seed Casper Ruud put up a solid second round display as he ousted American Brandon Nakashima in straight sets on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old exchanged an early break with the American but took charge as the match progressed breaking Nakashima for a second time in the sixth game of the first set before closing out the set. He looked even more convincing in the second set, as he dropped just eight points on his serve, didn’t face a single break point and converted two of three break points to seal the set and the match 6-3, 6-2 in 89 minutes.

Ruud is chasing a second title this season, having already won one on clay in Buenos Aires. That title was the Norwegian’s seventh overall and sixth on the surface. Last year, he had won five titles with four of them coming on clay.

The red-hot Ruud also reached his first-ever ATP 1000 final in Miami this season, but his terrific run ended in disappointment as he went down to Carlos Alcaraz in the final.

He is, however, coming off a poor run at the Monte Carlo Masters, having lost in the third round to Grigor Dimitrov. Tuesday’s win improved Ruud’s season record to 15-5. Can the World No. 7 further improve that record by finding a place in the quarterfinals in Barcelona for the first time in his career?

Ruusuvuori Powers Past Bublik

Picking up from where he left in the first round, Finland’s Emil Ruusuvuori powered past 16th seed Alexander Bublik in the second round on Wednesday.

The Finn, who had demolished Spain’s Feliciano Lopez in the first round, needed under 60 minutes for the second consecutive round, as he dispatched the Kazakh 6-3, 6-1. Ruusuvuori dropped just nine points off his serve in the entire match and converted four of seven break points in the match to advance into the Round of 16.

Yet to face a break point this week, the Finn was even more dominant in the first round, when he dropped just eight points on his serve and converted five of nine break points to beat Lopez 6-0, 6-1.

The 23-year-old, who is playing in Barcelona for the first time, improved his season record to 14-8 following Wednesday’s win. He had earlier reached a maiden tour-level final in Pune and was also a semifinalist in Melbourne.

He doesn’t have a great reputation on clay, but given the way he has started the tournament, Ruud definitely won’t take him lightly.

Ruud v Ruusuvuori Prediction and Tip

This should be a match dominated by Ruud. Expect the Norwegian to advance with a straight sets win.
