Gael Monfils v Carlos Gimeno Valero Head to Head
Monfils has never played Gimeno Valero in a competitive match before this.

Monfils’ Won Just Two Clay Matches Since 2019
While most of Monfils’ success has come on hard court surfaces, he has a solid clay court career record as well with the Frenchman having a 131-88 win-loss score.
What that doesn’t show is Monfils’ issues on clay over the last couple of years, with the former world number six having won just two matches on it since the end of his 2019 campaign.
This year, Monfils is yet to kick-start on clay, but more vitally hasn’t taken to court since his shock third round defeat at Miami Masters to Francisco Cerundolo. That was over a month ago.
With no clay court matches under his belt and a general sense of rustiness having not played for a while, Monfils could find things difficult to manoeuvre to start off. Can he hold his nerve against a player ranked 369th in the world?

Gimeno Valero on ATP Debut
Only last year Gimeno Valero looked to be moving up the rankings charts, having achieved a career-high ranking of 260th in the world. A maiden title win on the Challenger circuit in 2021 was an indicator about how things were going for her.
Since then, however, Gimeno Valero has not had too much going for him by way of results and that has caused him to plummet to 369th.
In fact, coming into this competition, Gimeno Valero has lost three matches in a row including a quarterfinal defeat at the Murcia Challenger, and qualifying losses at Madrid Challenger and Barcelona Open.
Having gotten himself a wild-card, the 20-year-old Gimeno Valero will love to make to an impression on his senior tour debut despite taking on a far superior opponent, at least ranking-wise.
Monfils v Gimeno Valero Prediction and Tip
Monfils is an obvious favourite at 1/9 odds but has been out of touch on clay as opposed to an opponent who has featured in a lot of clay court competitions. Will we see an upset here? We reckon it might not get to those levels but Monfils does look like he has a struggle on his hands.
Tip: Monfils to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
