Sinner Hopefully Healthy

Jannik Sinner has dealt with several physical issues this season and it’s been a shame because at times he played really strong tennis. In Miami, he was going strong until a foot issue forced him to retire. In Monte-Carlo, he dealt with the same problem and failed to win an epic clash against Alexander Zverev.

That match was the final one he played before this event so it’s safe to say that Sinner took some time off to deal with the physical issues. The hope is that he is fully healthy for Madrid and if he was he could be a dangerous opponent. The Italian is 17-5 on the season and he’s been always good on clay.

The style does not change, he hits and hits and hits until he wears you down. 10-6 was the record last year on the surface and this year it’s 3-1. Madrid could be a good place for him especially if his serve is on point and if his forehand does not sail wide.

Paul, Struggling of Late

Tommy Paul opened the season in pretty good fashion and he posted a rather solid record to start the year. Since then it’s been a bit of a struggle, especially with the season shifting to clay. He’s 1-2 on the surface with an early exit in Estoril against Richard Gasquet.

Overall he’s 14-9 which is solid but the American is still enjoying his career-best ranking after breaking out last year. He finished off the year with his maiden trophy in Stockholm so many thought this year would be a step up. It was for a while but since then it’s been a struggle.

Overall things on clay should not go to well for Paul but he’s pretty okay on the surface. Last year he was 9-7 and if he can post another positive score this year he’ll be content about it.

Sinner v Paul Prediction and Tip

There is nothing in tennis that Paul does better than Sinner. That’s as bluntly as you can put it. Sinner is a tremendous player who is certainly going to become one of the best in the world in the next decade. Paul, while talented, probably will never become one of the best.

Sinner is also far more comfortable on clay and plays far better. However, Madrid could offer Paul a way to counter Sinner and that’s his serve. If he can serve well and keep it close things could get messy but if he does not do he will lose.

He can’t outhit Sinner, he lacks the consistency to do so. But if he can keep it short and sweet with his serve it could go to three. I think it might but I’m going to take Sinner to win in three as he loses a set due to rustiness but shakes it off to win the match.

Tip: Sinner to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
