Holger Rune v Botic van de Zandschulp Head to Head

This will be the first time that Rune and van de Zandschulp will be facing off in a competitive encounter.

Rune Makes it Four Straight-Set Wins in a Row

It’s been the kind of dream week for Rune that ordinarily would have definitely deserved the title but then his opponent in this final might have something to say about that too.

Then again, Rune did make it this far after shocking Alexander Zverev in the second round and then pulling past Emil Ruusuvuori and Oscar Otte in his previous two rounds. Those wins along with a first round victory against Jiri Lehecka saw Rune drop not a single set.

And Rune had been making the waves, working up the steam to get there too.

There had been a Challenger tournament win early in April, and a shock win over Aslan Karatsev in the first round in Monte-Carlo that came as a qualifier.

In the semifinals here, Rune needed an hour and 28 minutes to get past Otte, overcoming a 2-4 deficit in the first set to complete a 6-4, 6-4 win.

Can he take that step forward to lift his maiden ATP title?

Van de Zandschulp Stuns Kecmanovic

Ranked 40th in the world and taking on a player with the kind of form that Miomir Kecmanovic has been in, van de Zandschulp looked to be crashing out of the tournament after getting routed in the first set.

The Dutchman, however, mounted a sterling fightback, resisting Kecmanovic’s tenacity and pulling through in three sets.

In a match lasting two hours and 53 minutes, van de Zandschulp won 2-6, 7-6 (4), 6-4 to reach his maiden ATP final for his career.

This came at the back of victories over Brandon Nakashima, Egor Gerasimov and Casper Ruud, with the last of those opponents having gone into the encounter as a 3/10 favourite to win it. Botic van de Zandschulp reduced those odds to a joke with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Ruud.

Between him and his first tournament win stands a debutant too, a teenager who has never reached a final before. Surely, van de Zandschulp has a good chance here.

Rune v van de Zandschulp Prediction and Tip

While Botic van de Zandschulp is a better-ranked player, it’s Rune’s display so far that has him pegged as a favourite at 1/2. Expecting van de Zandschulp to put up a show for sure.
