Hubert Hurkacz has been in decent form this year and comes to Madrid with a 17-7 season record.
The World No. 14, who guided Poland to the semifinals of the ATP Cup, was a semifinalist in Dubai and Miami and a quarterfinalist in Monte-Carlo — his only clay court tournament so far this year.
A Wimbledon semifinalist last year, Hurkacz tends to struggle on clay and a 12-19 record is a reflection of that. He has never reached a clay court final, but is 4 from 4 in hard court finals, winning three of those titles last season.
The 25-year-old, who has 11 top 10 wins in his career so far, defeated No. 10 Jannik Sinner in Dubai and No. 2 Daniil Medvedev in Miami in 2022.

Dellien Comes Through Qualifiers
World No. 85 Hugo Dellien qualified for the main draw with two solid wins in the qualifying rounds.
The Bolivian defeated Hugo Gaston 6-1, 6-2 in the first qualifying round and then ousted Mackenzie McDonald 7-5, 6-1 in the second qualifying round on Sunday to make it to the main draw.
This is the fourth consecutive tournament this season when Dellien has qualified for the main draw, having also won his qualifying rounds in Monte-Carlo, Barcelona and Estoril.
When it comes to the main draws, he won his opening round matches in both the previous tournaments, beating Jiří Veselý in Barcelona and Manuel Guinard in Estoril. The 28-year-old has won two more tour-level matches this season, beating Gonzalo Lama in Santiago and also a match at the Davis Cup against Peru.
Overall, the clay court specialist is 4-8 this year, having played all his matches on his preferred surface.
This will be his second appearance in Madrid. He won one and lost one after coming through the qualifiers in 2019.
