Diego Schwartzman v Benoit Paire Head to Head

They have met on clay in Munich and in Rome splitting results.

Strong Clay Season For Schwartzman

Argentine veteran Diego Schwartzman had a strong run on the LatAm clay earlier this year, making the semis at the Cordoba Open and being runner-up at both Buenos Aires and Rio.

Schwartzman began the European clay swing with a good run in Monte Carlo making his way into the final four.

The Argentine was looking good for a win against Stefanos Tsitsipas in the semi-finals,  up 4-0 in the decider but collapsed thereafter to lose six games in a row.

The Argentine started well the following week in Barcelona with straight set wins over Mackenzie McDonald and Lorenzo Musetti and then a well fought quarter-final against Felix Auger- Aliassime.

However, with rain affecting the schedule for several players, many ended up playing back-to-back or even twice a day at times.

Schwartzman looked less than convincing in his semi-final against Spain’s Pablo Carreno Busta losing straight sets, but it was a good move by the Argentine to withdraw from Esotril this week and get some much needed rest for the Madrid and Rome Masters 1000s before the French Open at the end of the month.

Paire Hoping To Revive Season In Madrid

Benoit Paire has had a very poor season thus far.

The 32-year-old Frenchman last won a tour-level match at the Australian Open, beating Grigor Dimitrov in the second round, following his five-set first-round win over Thiago Monteiro.

Those two wins remain the only two tour level wins for him this year. He has featured in nine other tournaments this season, losing in the first rounds of all nine.

Paire is known to be comfortable on clay, winning all three of his ATP titles on the surface.

He is 0-5 on the surface this year though, but will be hoping to end his losing streak in Madrid having looked in decent nick in the qualifiers defeating Brandon Nakashima and Federico Coria in tight three- setters.

Paire reached three quarterfinals on clay last season and will be looking to strike form on what has been the most productive surface for him throughout his career.

Schwartzman v Paire Prediction and Tip

One can never discount Benoit Paire regardless of how temperamental and unpredictable he may be. However, Schwartzman has been disciplined and in good touch here on the clay.

It remains difficult to predict which version of Paire shows up today, but the Argentine should prevail in straight sets.

Tip: Schwartzman to win in straight sets: 4/9 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
