Alcaraz In The Spotlight In Madrid
Spanish teenage sensation Carlos Alcaraz begins his Madrid Masters 1000 campaign two days before his 19th birthday, finding himself the center of attention after the run he has had this season.
Being recognized as a force to reckon with in the days to come, after his win against Stefanos Tsitsipas at the 2021 US Open, Alcaraz ended the season convincingly winning the ATP Next Gen Finals in Milan.
The Spaniard’s career has taken off the rails this season with three titles already, including ATP 500 wins at Rio and Barcelona, as well as winning the ATP Masters 1000 in Miami.
Alcaraz has moved rapidly up the rankings breaking into the top 10 of the ATP rankings, being currently ranked as high as number nine in the world at only 18 years of age.
From being part of the younger Next Gen, the Spaniard has become the player to watch and being pipped by many as a direct threat to the likes of Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal at the French Open later this month.

Basilashvili Confident With Fognini Win
Nikoloz Basilashvili has featured in eleven tournaments this season, but had registered just four wins coming into the Madrid Open.
Three of these wins were in Doha, where he went on to reach the final but could not defend his title, finishing runner-up to Roberto Bautista Agut.
Coming into clay, his fortunes were not much better. The Georgian lost to Grigor Dimitrov in the Monte Carlo opener, pulling out mid-way, to Jaume Munar in Barcelona and to Miomir Kecmanovic in Munich last week after defeating Ilya Ivashka in the opener.
Basilashvili opened against Fabio Fognini here in Madrid, another individual who is strong on clay (2019 Monte Carlo title holder) but has not managed to hit any form in recent times.
It was a tight opening set looking to head to a tiebreak before the Georgian broke to go up 7-5, and then needed another break of serve in the second set to win the match in straight sets securing only his second match win of the season outside of Doha.
Alcaraz v Basilashvili Prediction and Tip
A good encounter awaits us between two players who hit a big forehand. While a lot of spotlight and perhaps some pressure and expectation will be on Alcaraz, the Georgian will be flying under the radar despite a good win against Fognini.
Expect a match more competitive than many may think, with Alcaraz prevailing in a decider.
Tip: Alcaraz to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
