Stefanos Tsitsipas v Lucas Pouille Head to Head

They played twice with the Greek leading 2-0. The most recent one came last year in Marseille with Tsitsipas winning 6-2 6-3.

A Big Result for Tsitsipas?

Stefanos Tsitsipas disappointed last year in Madrid playing a rather bad match against Casper Ruud and crashing out of the event early. He was a bit fatigued at that event coming off a long week but he was simply outplayed by Ruud who was ascending on the world stage.

This year Tsitsipas returned with a burning desire to do better as Madrid is a really good for his game. A strong serve, a brilliant forehand is all you need to do well in Madrid and the Greek moves really well on the surface as well. He admitted he is motivated and he got a pretty good draw.

A 1st round match against Pouille is great for him as he will get a good chance to get a feel for Madrid. The Frenchman bested Khachanov who would have a tricky player to beat for Tsitsiap due to the Russian’s serve so he did him a favour there. Tsitspas is 24-8 on the year and 7-1 on clay this year.

Surprise Win By Pouille

Lucas Pouille was once ranked at the top of men’s tennis but injuries and other factors completely derailed a rather promising career. In the past year, Pouille has been staging a comeback yet it has been very hard to find consistency. He mainly plays on the challenger tour but even at that level, he has trouble winning a lot of matches.

He’s 7-10 on the year and most of those matches came on the challenger tour. That’s not good enough as the Frenchman is feeling the consequences as he is quite near to dropping out of the top 200. It’s a question if he will ever get back to the top 30 ranking he had previously.

He will need more wins like yesterday when he bested Karen Khachanov in round 1 out of nowhere. It was a strong showing for Pouille but it’s unlikely he can do it again. Even if he does, it’s probably not enough for Tsitsipas.

Tsitsipas v Pouille Prediction and Tip

I won’t waste too much time here because it’s rather clear that this is a matchup Tsitsipas should win in two sets and rather easily. They played last year and it was a 6-2 6-3 win for Tsitsipas. Now on clay it should be fairly similar. Pouille did well against Khachanov but Tsitsipas is another league.

I just don’t see how the Frenchman can hurt Tsitsipas consistently except for the backhand but Pouille has never been a premium server. Maybe though as it’s Madrid and the altitude helps. There is a habit of Tsitsipas complicating things a bit lately so we might see one close set or a tiebreak but I don’t see him losing, now way. Tsitsipas in two.

Tip: Tsitsipas to win in straight sets: 1/2 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
