Sebastian Korda v Lorenzo Musetti Head to Head

Sebastian Korda has been very good on clay this year and he’s one of the 3 defeats Carlos Alcaraz suffered this year. Korda had a strong run in Monte-Carlo, then an early exit in Barcelona and then a very bad defeat to Frances Tiafoe in Estoril.
However, he’s 14-8 on the year and that’s pretty strong from him. Six of those wins came on clay and he’s been playing rather well. This is the season where he will establish himself as one of the best at tennis and a strong start in Madrid confirmed that.
He weathered the storm rather well against Reilly Opelka beating him in straight sets and setting up a clash against Musetti. He should win that matchup as well.

Musetti Battling Hard
Lorenzo Musetti has not had a very comfortable stay in Madrid so far but he was able to overcome all of those challenges. He had to play the qualies and he bested Yoshihito Nishioka in round one, then Alejandro Moro Canas in round two and then Ilya Ivashka in round one of the main draw.
That match against Ivashka was particularly tough as he could have lost it rather easily. But he is battling hard and it’s paying off. Madrid is not the best clay event for him as he prefers a bit slower conditions which makes his matchup against Korda a tricky one.
Overall his full of confidence and he will like his chances. 15-11 is a good record after a shaky start to the year. A 9-3 clay record also helps.
Korda v Musetti Prediction and Tip
So they played once on clay last year in Lyon and Musetti was able to win that match. Korda was pretty shaky in that match and he was coming off a trophy in Parma so he was quite fatigued as well. Musetti will probably end up being the better clay player but Korda is the better player at this moment.
Both are playing rather well at the moment but Korda looked a bit stronger in round one. His game naturally fits more to these conditions as he has the more powerful serve. He hits the ball harder and his forehand is flatter. All of that helps him here.
Musetti can give him trouble but he will need to play pretty well. I’m not sure he is able to do that. So I’m going to back Korda to win.
