Novak Djokovic v Hubert Hurkacz Head to Head

This will be the fourth meeting between the two players, with Djokovic leading head-to-head 3-0. They played a close encounter at the 2021 ATP Tour Finals with Djokovic winning in a final set tiebreaker.

Their only clay meeting was at the 2019 French Open, which was won convincingly by the Serb.

Djokovic Gets Day Off With Murray Withdrawal

World number one Novak Djokovic has not had the best of seasons, beginning with his controversial dismissal from the Australian Open, followed by a third round loss in Dubai, and then not playing the Sunshine Masters due to vaccine rules in the US.

The clay swing here has not been the kindest to the defending champion at Roland Garros with a loss in the Monte Carlo opener to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.

Djokovic was pushed to three setters in all his matches in Belgrade before a loss in the finals to Andrey Rublev, including a 0-6 third set.

The number one seed here in Madrid looked at his best this season in his opener against long time rival Gael Monfils increasing the head-to-head to 18-0, with a convincing 6-3, 6-2 victory.

Although still not where he would like his game to be, Djokovic is getting the much needed match practice and match wins under his belt, looking to keep improving in form and confidence heading into the French Open at month end.

Up against old rival Andy Murray in the round of 16, it was a walkover for the world number one with the Briton withdrawing with illness.

While a win is always welcome, Djokovic was perhaps looking forward to more match practice and a good contest with an arch rival who he has not played against  in more than five years.

Hurkacz Progressing On Clay

After battling past Bolivia’s Hugo Dellien in a close to three-hour first-round contest, World No. 14 Hubert Hurkacz needed two hours and 28 minutes to edge past Monte-Carlo Masters finalist Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the second round on Wednesday.

Hurkacz, who was a semifinalist in Dubai and Miami and a quarterfinalist in Monte-Carlo, improved his  2022 clay record to 6-1 with a win against Dusan Lajovic of Serbia.

The 25-year-old from Poland is into his maiden quarterfinal in the Spanish capital. It will be interesting to see if he is affected by the two sapping encounters prior to the third round.

It was a more routine encounter in the third round with Hurkacz playin an evenly matched opening set before breaking at 5-5 to close the set 7-5.

A single break of serve in the second set was sufficient for a 7-5, 6-3 win and a spot in the final eight.

Djokovic v Hurkacz Prediction and Tip

Hurkacz has had a good run on the clay but it has also been a tiring one spending considerably more time on the courts than the world number one.

Expect a good showing again from the Pole, but Djokovic is getting into his own and the rest this week will see him ready and fresh to go.

The world number can be expected to prevail in straight sets.

Tip: Djokovic to win in straight sets: 2/9 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
