Sebastian Korda v Botic van de Zandschulp Head to Head
There have been two previous battles between these players and both Korda and van de Zandschulp have won once apiece. More vitally, Korda defeated van de Zandschulp in a clay court match in Monte Carlo earlier this season.

Korda 6-4 on Clay This Season
It’s been a middling sort of a season for Korda so far but it’s done enough to carry him to a world ranking of 30th on the ATP charts. That’s his career-best in the leadup to this competition in Rome.
Korda is coming off a shock defeat in Madrid as well, having gone down to Lorenzo Musetti in the second round there. He lost 6-4, 6-3 despite starting out as a 1/2 favourite to clinch the tie.
That was a surprise also because Korda had entered that competition on the back of a semifinal appearance in Estoril, having gotten the better of Felix Auger-Aliassime in one of the previous rounds. And when he overcame Reilly Opelka in his opener in Madrid, it looked like he shouldn’t have too many issues against Musetti either.
Interestingly, Korda’s overall career record on clay is a strong 14-8 and he should start off this match with enough confidence to get through despite his opponent’s prowess.

Van de Zandschulp on a Similar Graph as His Opponent
van de Zandschulp might be five years older than his opponent but some of his performances this season have been similar to Korda. To go with that, he is just one rank lower than Korda and much like the American, van de Zandschulp is also at his career-best ranking.
And that has been down to his showing this season which has seen him win seven and lost just four of his matches on clay.
One of those performances consisted of van de Zandschulp reaching the final of the Munich Open where he had to retire from the encounter because of an injury but that was not before he had gotten past Casper Ruud and Miomir Kecmanovic in the previous two rounds.
And much like Korda, he had also lost in the second round at Madrid last week, going down to David Goffin despite starting out a 3/4 favourite.
Can he push Korda hard in this one or will that injury from Munich make it tougher for him?
Korda v van de Zandschulp Prediction and Tip
Korda starts out a 4/6 favourite here and given his overall record on clay we give him the edge to get past his Dutch opponent in this one.
