Can Sinner Deliver on Clay?
World No. 12 Jannik Sinner was sent packing by Felix Auger-Aliassime in the Round of 16 of the Madrid Open this week, but not before he had notched his 100th tour-level victory.
The 20-year-old defeated Tommy Paul and Alex de Minaur to get his 99th and 100th tour-level wins. Four of those 100 wins have come at home in Rome, where he has a 4-3 record. He has never gone past the Round of 16 in Rome and will be eager to make a deep run this year.
Last season, Sinner could only reach the second round before falling to Rafael Nadal, who went on to win the title.
Sinner brings a 21-5 season record to the tournament. He has featured in four quarterfinals, including at the Australian Open, Dubai, Miami and Monte-Carlo.
A decent clay court player, he has a 61% win record on the surface, but neither of his five titles have come on the surface. In fact he is yet to reach a clay court final.

Martinez Has Struggled Since Santiago Triumph
Facing Sinner is World no. 44 Pedro Martinez. The Spaniard, who won his maiden title in Santiago this season, is on a three-match losing streak.
Having fallen to Hubert Hurkacz in the second round in Monte-Carlo, Martinez made first round exits from Barcelona and Madrid, losing to Ilya Ivashka and Alex de Minaur respectively.
The 25-year-old is 13-10 this season, which includes an 8-6 record on clay, the surface where he has tasted the most success at all levels.
Martinez, who was also a finalist in Kitzbuhel last season, will be making his second main draw appearance in Rome. In 2020, he had qualified for the main draw by winning all three of the qualifiers and then gone on to win his opening round before falling in the Round of 32.
Sinner v Martinez Prediction and Tip
Given Martinez’s recent struggles, Sinner will be the favourite to win this match. Expect the Italian to advance with a straight sets win.
Tip: Sinner to win in straight sets: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
