Daria Kasatkina v Tamara Zidansek Head to Head
There has been one previous meeting between these players and it was Zidansek who had won that one on clay in Moscow in 2018. Kasatkina did manage to take a set off her opponent.

Clay might not be Kasatkina’s most preferred surface to play on but she seems to have made a solid fist of it this season with a couple of good results going her way.
Because while Kasatkina has won just three out of the five matches she’s played on clay, the Russian has defeated Cori Gauff and Maria Sakkari in two of those matches. The defeats came at the hands of Ons Jabeur, the in-form Tunisian who just won the Madrid Open title and Sara Sorribes Tormo.
Kasatkina’s year had begun with a bigger bang too. She had made the semifinal at the Melbourne Summer Set 2 and then stunned Sofia Kenin, Elise Mertens and Garbine Muguruza on her way to the semifinal of the Sydney International.
Since then her form has tapered off slightly but there still seems to be that underlying confidence which should help her in this Rome Open opener.

Zidansek 1-2 on Clay in 2022
While Zidansek has climbed up to 24th in the world, her season hasn’t seen her get going in the manner she would have liked. Especially after the kind of year she had last season, having won a title in Lausanne 0n clay.
Zidansek has played 12 matches this year and won and lost six apiece, with two defeats from three matches on clay coming as a surprise.
More so because the first came at the hands of Laura Siegemund in the first round at Stuttgart and she followed that up with a second round defeat to Victoria Azarenka in Madrid.
Azarenka had gone into that encounter as a favourite, sure, but Zidansek would have wanted to do a lot better after winning the opening set than to lose the next two two 6-1, 6-3.
Against a confident Kasatkina, things don’t look very promising for the Slovenian.
