Sloane Stephens v Ekaterina Alexandrova Head to Head
The pair have played each other once before, on the hard courts of Sydney in 2019, Stephens coming from behind to win in three sets.

It is a decade since Stephens made her debut in this event, and two third round appearances are the best she has to show for her efforts over the years.
She, has, however, been in two WTA 1000 finals, winning the Miami Open, and finishing runner-up in the Canadian Open, but that was back in her hey-day in 2018, when she was a top ten player.
The American will, at least, have been glad to have eroded her slide down the rankings this year, and is once more back in the top fifty, after she won her first tournament for four years in Mexico in February.
However, she has lost both her two matches on clay so far this year, beaten in the first round io Charleston and again last time out in Madrid, going down to the Ukrainian Anheline Kalinina, in straight sets.

Madrid Semi-Finalist Alexandrova
This will be the third time Alexandrova has appeared in the main draw in Rome. She lost in the third round last year, which, at the time, emulated her best performance in a WTA 1000 event.
That, though, was before Madrid last week, where, despite the fact that she had to come through two rounds of qualifying first, she reached the semi-finals, before eventually bowing out to Ons Jabeur, who went on to win the tournament.
In fact, that was her second final of the clay court season. She also got to that stage in Charleston, where she was eventually defeated by the Olympic gold medallist Belinda Bencic, who also went on to win the trophy.
She will be looking for another good performance in Italy to set her up for the French Open.
Stephens v Alexandrova Prediction and Tip
Although they are closely matched in terms of ranking, Alexandrova has reached the semi-finals of two clay court events already this year, whilst Stephens has lost her two previous matches on the surface. Alexandrova would appear to have the clear edge.
