Karen Khachanov v Giulio Zeppieri Head to Head
This will be their first meeting on the ATP Tour.

20-year-old Italian Giulio Zeppieri has got himself a wonderful opportunity here in the Rome Masters to make himself known on the tour. Although he is quite young and one of the newest members of the ATP family (main tour debut in 2020), the youngster has the potential to go big.
The highlights of his career include three Challenger finals (all on clay) and Zeppieri went the distance in two of those (2019, 2021).
So far in 2022, the World No. 229 has kept himself focussed mainly on the Challenger circuit – he has a couple of quarterfinals to his name but apart from that, nothing particularly impressive. He also played in ATP Belgrade but lost in the quailifiers.
In Rome, Zeppieri got a wildcard entry into the qualifiers – and defeated Alex Molcan and Maxime Cressy in three sets to reach the main draw. With this performance alone, he has assured himself of the highest prize money of his career so far.

Khachanov, Positive of his Chances
World No. 26 Karen Khachanov is the clear favourite in this match and all for the right reasons – he is much more experienced than Zeppieri and has had a far better year, at least comparatively.
Most recently, the 25-year-old reached the semis in the 250 Belgrade (losing to Novak Djokovic) but that run was sandwiched between first-round losses in Monte Carlo to Diego Schwartzman and to Lucas Pouille in Madrid.
Khachanov was a lot more impressive on hard courts; he reached his ATP final on the tour since November 2018 in Adelaide and followed it with a quarterfinal stint in Adelaide 2 and the semis in Doha. That said, he hasn’t been the most consistent among the bunch and given his proclivity to shocking losses, there is a chance that Khachanov can lose this one.
Khachanov v Zeppieri Prediction and Tip
Khachanov makes for the safe bet here but Zeppieri, perhaps boosted his home run, may be confident enough to bag this one. The precedent is set for him and if he manages to trouble the Russian early on, he may very well move to win.
The Italian clearly makes for a good bet – especially at the odds at which he is available. At the very least, he is likely to put up a good fight.
