Leylah Fernandez v Daria Kasatkina Head to Head
They never played against each other.

Good Start for Fernandez
Leylah Fernandez did not hit the jackpot by drawing Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in round one of the event and when the Russian finished off the first set with 6-1 it seemed like she would be packing her bags early. However, the Canadian found her serve in the next part of the match and that unlocked new alleys for her in the match.
She won the 2nd with 6-2 and the 3rd 6-2 as well to move on to the 2nd round. Her reward will be another Russian and another strong clay player Daria Kasatkina. Fernandez does not play that well on clay but she can be a good player on the surface with more experience.
Another go in Rome will aid her in that goal and she’ll have a chance to build upon the 12-6 year she’s having so far. Fernandez is slated for a bigger year than last year and that’s peaking volumes of her talent but that consistency thing will need to improve.

Kasatkina Going Strong on Clay
Daria Kasatkina is not playing her peak tennis at the moment but the Russian is still able to score some impressive wins on clay. It’s not a surprise as it’s her favourite surface and the one where she played the best tennis historically. She had a brutal year last year posting a 36-19 record and she started well this year as well 15-9.
4-2 is the record on clay but it will certainly improve in the following weeks especially if she can elevate her tennis even further. Taking down Maria Sakkari in Madrid was impressive and an easy win over Tamara Zidansek in the first round in Rome is another good win for her.
Now she gets to play with Fernandez, a player she should theoretically be able to beat on clay. It will be tough but her movement is better and she can create some tough angles for Fernandez to handle. If she can survive the forehand of Leylah, she will be in good shape.
Fernandez v Kasatkina Prediction and Tip
So these two players have never played before so it’s kind of hard predicting how this one might one. Fernandez showed her clay game against Pavlyuchenkova so Kasatkina will have a good idea of what to expect. A lot will depend on Leylah’s serve because when it started to hit today, the math turned.
If she doesn’t hit it consistently she will be in trouble even more so than against Pavlyuchenkova. The same thing goes for Daria. She needs to hi her sere and groundstrokes need to be working. It’s been the case in the past few weeks so she should be good in that regard.
If she can force Leylah into the defensive, she will in a good spot. I think she will be able to assert her will but I don’t think it will go smoothly in two. Long story short, back Daria to get the win but don’t be surprised if she needs three to do it.
Tip: Kasatkina to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
