2018 Finalist Zverev Coming off Madrid Final

While Zverev just did not have any steam left for his Madrid Masters final against teenage sensation Carlos Alcaraz, he does enter this competition as one of the favourites to go the distance.

The second seed overcame his opening loss at Munich the week prior to Madrid, defeating Maric Cilic, Lorenzo Musetti and Felix Auger-Aliassime – all solid players in their own right – to set up a semifinal meeting with Stefanos Tsitsipas.

And going into that last four match at 4/3 underdog against the Greek, Zverev carved out a three-set win over Tsitsipas to progress to the title-decider.

By doing that he avenged his Monte-Carlo Masters defeat at the hands of the same opponent and at the same stage of the competition there.

Zverev might have had his issues with the scheduling of the final in Madrid, something he alleged gave him no recovery time between the semifinals and final, he will need to quickly recover from that as he takes to court for the start of this tournament in Rome.

And against a player, who has done his bit on clay to cause some fear.

Baez off Maiden ATP Title Win

Baez is currently ranked 37th in the world, which is his career-best ranking, brought about by his maiden ATP title that he won in Estoril.

That tournament victory, followed by the back to back qualifying wins got him to the main draw of this competition where he was up against Tallon Griekspoor in his opener.

And while he was stretched to three sets and over two and a hours on court, Baez registered a 6-3, 6-7 (7), 6-2 win over his 67th-ranked opponent to set up this meeting with Zverev.

Baez faced a mere four break-points in the entire match while breaking his opponent five times in return to complete the victory.

Can he put up a strong showing against the world number three?

Zverev v Baez Prediction and Tip
