Cameron Norrie v Marin Cilic Head to Head

The pair have played each other once before, and that was on clay in the semi-final of the Estoril Open last year, Norrie winning in two close sets.

Norrie Sees Off Teenager

Norrie, like Cilic, was drawn in the first round against an Italian wildcard, in his case the teenager Luca Nardi, currently the world number 201.

Although both men had early break points, it was Norrie who made the breakthrough with the first break of serve midway through the first set. Nardi had two further break points when the British player served for the set, but could not convert either of them.

Nardi then dropped his serve at the start of the second set, and that ultimately proved to be decisive. He never threatened to recover it, and Norrie was able to ease his way into the second round.

Cilic Brushes Aside Wieldcard

Cilic has a good record in Rome, having made the semi-finals here in 2018, and twice been a quarter-finalist as well.

And, despite having struggled on clay so far this year, he made a convincing start to his latest campaign on Sunday, although he will acknowledge that the draw was kind to him, pairing him with the Italian wildcard, Matteo Arnaldi, the world number 275.

It was largely one way traffic in the first set and the Italian was only able to win one game off the Croat.

He made more of a fight off it in the second set and even, at one stage, had a break point against the Cilic serve. Arnaldi, though, could not take it, and eventually wilted under the pressure, and dropped his serve once more. Cilic served out next game.

Norrie v Cilic Prediction and Tip

This is expected to be a close match, but, with Norrie having won their only previous encounter on clay, he will be confident of claiming victory again.
