Jenson Brooksby v Pablo Cuevas Head to Head

They never played against each other.

Brooksby Here to Stay

Jenson Brooksby broke out last year with some impressive wins including the one over Taylor Fritz at US Open. The American plays a very fun and distinctive style which got him many fans quickly. His rise this year was rather impressive and nobody expected him to be ranked this high this fast.

But here he is with a 14-8 record on the year. On clay, he’s only 2-3 but that’s to be expected. He did not play too many events and when he played he was rather solid. Losing to Casper Ruud in Rome is no shame. He will try to do better here than last year.

Last year it was an early-round one exit to Aslan Karatsev. Since then Brooksby improved and it’s not hard seeing him advance past that.

Cuevas the Veteran

Pablo Cuevas is still playing tennis and his tennis is not bad at all. Not the quickest anymore, Cuevas now uses his brain to get an advantage in rallies. It worked rather well for him this year with an 12-10 record on the year. He mostly played on clay and rarely ventured outside the surface.

Recently his form has been somewhat shaky. He played a couple of challenger events and he scored some decent wins but when faced with a better player Cuevas usually folds. He’s been okay in Paris over the years rarely crashing out in the first round.

Last year it was Noak Djokovic who stopped him in three sets. Cuevas will try to teach some lessons to the young gun but keep reading if you want to see how that ends up.

Brooksby v Cuevas Prediction and Tip

So this is a matchup that Brooksby should win. He is mature enough and should know what to do to win. I could see Cuevas snatching one set, especially if Brooksby enters some funk but I don’t think that will help him in the long run. The longer this match goes on the less likely Cuevas is going to win.

The Uruguayan usually lost matches against better players this year and Brooskby is the better player. Cuevas might be taken aback by the unusual playstyle which could cause some errors. Overall I think Brooksby wins this, maybe not in three sets but certainly in four or five. It would be a pretty big upset if the American lost this.
