Simona Halep v Ana Konjuh Head to Head

Their only previous outing came at the 2017 St. Petersburg Open where Halep won in straight sets.

Halep Crashes Out Early in Rome

While Halep did seem to begin well her clay court campaign for the season at the Madrid Open, she did not have a very happy outing in the Rome Open that followed.

Following on from the first round drubbing of Alize Cornet, Halep was sent packing by Danielle Collins in the second, losing in straight sets.

Earlier, in Madrid, Halep reached the quarterfinals following three successive victories only to lose to the in-form Ons Jabeur. Again, she failed to win a set and that would be bit of a worry for the former French Open champion – the lack of a fight put up against some of the top players.

That said, Halep is also finding her way back through the ranks, having fallen to 19th in the world after having been as high as second on the WTA charts just last season.

A challenging opponent awaits her in this opener but Halep will know she has the game to tackle Konjuh down.

Konjuh 1-5 on Clay This Season

Forgettable. Abysmal. Underwhelming.

Whichever way you look at it, that’s Konjuh’s season for you but more so on clay.

The Croat, who was a finalist at Belgrade Open last season on this very surface and won the Zagreb ITF title in the year before that, has won just one match on red dirt this year. And that too, in the qualifying rounds of Italian Open.

It began with opening round losses at Charleston, Istanbul and Madrid, a defeat at the qualifying round at Rome and another first round defeat in Strasbourg.

And while form is a definite issue for Konjuh, a lot of it could be down to the total lack of confidence with the Croat having last won a main draw match in February.

It’s been eight tournaments since then. And by the looks of things, this could well be the ninth in a row.

Halep v Konjuh Prediction and Tip

Halep should have no worries here and a straight-set win awaits her to be taken on a platter.
