Federer and Zverev are two of the best players in the world right now. Both the players have won all of their matches in Perth successfully to take their respective nations into the final.
Federer, who is leading the defending Swiss team, defeated Frances Tiafoe, Cameron Norie, and Stefanos Tsitsipas back to back without any difficulties. As for Zverev, he too was absolutely flawless after overcoming the likes of David Ferrer, Lucas Pouille, and Mathew Ebden.
Comparing the form of the two players in the Hopman Cup, it was Federer who was far more clinical. He won all of his matches without dropping a single set. As for his German counterpart, he was taken to three sets by Pouille and Ferrer.
Federer v Zverev Head to Head
The head to head tally between the two players is tied at 3-3. They last met in the semifinal of the 2018 ATP Finals where Zverev stunned the Swiss maestro with 7-5, 7-6(5). The two players have mostly been neck to neck throughout their encounters.
They first met in the 2016 Rome Masters where Federer drew the first blood. They met later that season in Halle, where Zverev evened the score and thus began their rivalry.
Zverev’s Sensational Run in 2018
The 21-year-old German ended his 2018 season as the World No. 4 after winning the year-end ATP Finals in London, where he defeated Novak Djokovic in the final. That was his fourth title of the season, with the other three being the Madrid Masters, ATP Munich, and ATP Washington. His win-loss record at the end of the year was 58-19.
Zverev has been pegged as one of the leading players of the next generation who can very well upset the top order on the ATP Tour. His performance in the season behind us was a strong hint as to what the German is truly capable of. Additionally, he is now being coached by Ivan Lendl – the same coach who helped Andy Murray win three Grand Slams and reach the No. 1 rankings.
Federer’s Another Top 3 Finish
The Swiss managed to cap the previous season as the World No. 3 – a feat that many people thought to be impossible. At 37 years of age, he finished the season with four titles and a win-loss tally of 48-10. His biggest title was the Australian Open, which he followed with ATP Rotterdam and titles in Stuttgart and Basel.
With time, the Swiss has had to change his game so that he can keep playing the sport professionally for as long as possible. He has often said that before anything else, it is his love for tennis that keeps him going. However, with Zverev and others lurking around the corner, it is going to be interesting to see how Federer plays his opponents this time around.
Federer v Zeverev – Who Will Win?
The two players are evenly matched, making this fixture a tough one to call. Federer, being the more experienced one, will start this game as the favorite. However, as we have seen in the past, Zverev is more than capable of delivering an upset here.
