Novak Djokovic v Alex Molcan Head to Head
Their only previous outing came at the 2021 Belgrade Open which Djokovic won 6-4, 6-3 to lift the title.

Crushing Win for Djokovic in Opener
Defending champion Djokovic made his intentions clear with a smashing first round win over Yoshihito Nishioka.
In a match that lasted two hours, Djokovic improved as the time went along to register a 6-3, 6-1, 6-0 victory in his opener.
Djokovic, who had had a slowish start to the clay court season before winning the Rome Masters title, struggled through the first service game of the encounter but then broke his opponent in the sixth to seal a 1-0 lead.
And he looked to be motoring along to a bagelling Nishioka in the second too when he dropped his serve in the sixth game before wrapping things up with a fourth break of serve.
The third set proved to be one-way traffic for Djokovic with the Serb breaking his opponent three more times to end his agony.
Having tasted blood with his Rome Masters triumph, it wouldn’t come as a surprise if he continues to display a similar ruthlessness in this second round encounter too.

In-Form Molcan Continues Solid Run
It’s been the kind of season for Molcan which has seen him jump right up the rankings charts. Ranked 88th at the start of the year, Molcan has reached the finals of two ATP tournaments this season already and while he is yet to lift his first title, the Slovak has improved to 38th in the world.
Incidentally, Molcan had featured in the Lyon Open just before the start of this French Open and for the three time in his career, made the final of a clay court competition. While he lost in the title-decider, the confidence from having gotten that far again looked to have held him in a good stead for his opener here.
As a result, Molcan was a favourite heading into his opener against Federico Coria, and played like one too.
The Slovak registered a 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 victory over Coria to seal his second round berth. And while Djokovic will be a different kettle of fish, it’s the kind of challenge he would love to face in these early days with form behind his back.
Djokovic v Molcan Prediction and Tip
It would be a surprise if Djokovic didn’t seal a straight-set win here but having said that it also looks like this could be one of his early challenges to come through. Can Molcan push Djokovic in one of the sets at least?
