Leylah Fernandez v Belinda Bencic Head to Head
Fernandez leads the H2H 1-0 winning their only encounter in 2020 in the Billie Jean King Cup. She won 6-2, 7-6(3).

Fernandez Notching it up for the Grand Slam
The Canadian tennis player started her French Open campaign by bursting out to a 6-0 first set score line against home player Kristina Mladenovic silencing the Court Suzanne Lenglen crowd.
She beat Mladenovic 6-0, 7-5 and then went on to beat Katerina Siniakova 6-3, 6-2 in the second round. She was extremely good on her first serve and saved 10 breaks points, finding her first serve in most of them.
Fernandez had only won 2 matches on clay heading into Paris. However it does seem like she turns up the heat during Grand Slams and manages to find her best tennis.
When she is serving well, Fernandez can be very difficult to play against. She will need to have a similar first serve percentage as she had against Siniakova in her next round as Bencic is a very seasoned clay player.

Bencic Having a Fine Clay Run
Going into round 3 of the French Open, Belinda Bencic is one of the most in form players on tour having a 11-2 record on clay.
She beat Reka Luca Jani 6-1, 6-1 in the first round and then dominated former Grand Slam champion Bianca Andreescu 6-2, 6-4. She has been impeccable and probably one of the most impressive players in the draw along with Iga Swiatek and Amanda Anisimova.
Bencic started her clay season by lifting the Charleston Open. Interestingly she was losing the first round match in Charleston to Wang Xiyu who had multiple match points in the second set. Bencic turned around that match and set the platform for a brilliant clay swing.
The Swiss player has reached Round 3 of Roland Garros only once in her career, in 2019. She could easily match her best result in Paris and has been hitting the ball very clean.
Fernandez v Bencic Prediction and Tip
While the amazing 2021 US Open final run by Fernandez remains fresh in memory, it is difficult to see the Canadian repeat that run here. Bencic has been in fine form and has a much more mature game than Fernandez on clay. We should see the Swiss control the match for most parts and win this.
Tip: Bencic to win: 2/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
