Aliaksandra Sasnovich ended three-time Grand Slam champion Angelique Kerber’s run at the French Open with a straight sets win in the third round on Friday.
The Belarusian, ranked No. 47 in the world, needed an hour and 29 minutes to beat the 21st seed German 6-4, 7-6 (7-5).
Sasnovich struck 44 winners against Kerber’s 14. She converted half of the 10 break points that she held and saved half of the eight that she faced against the left-hander.
The Belarusian, who had never gone past the second round in the previous six attempts at the French Open, will be making a second fourth round appearance at a Grand Slam on Sunday.
She had begun the tournament by knocking out China’s Wang Xinyu in straight sets and then scored a comeback win over U.S. Open champion Emma Raducanu in the second round.

Trevisan Cruises Past Saville
It’s turning out to be a terrific month for Italy’s Martina Trevisan.
The Italian left-hander, who won her maiden WTA title in Rabat in the run-up to the French Open, has continued the win streak at the Paris major.
Trevisan reached the fourth round at Roland Garros without dropping a set in the first three rounds. She started with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Harriet Dart and then knocked out Magda Linette 6-3, 6-2 in the second round.
In the third round on Friday, Trevisan ousted Australia’s Daria Saville 6-3, 6-4 in an hour and 27 minutes.
Trevisan converted all four of the break points that she held and saved 8 of 10 to advance to the last 16 for the second time at Roland Garros. She was a quarterfinalist on her debut in 2020.
