Alex de Minaur knocked out eighth seed Reilly Opelka in the first round of the tournament on Monday.
The 23-year-old Australian wasn’t broken in the match, while he broke the World No. 18 once in each set to win 6-4, 6-4 in an hour and 15 minutes. De Minaur was very good on his serve, winning 89% points on the back of his first serve and dropping just 15 of 59 service points in the match.
The win means, the World no. 21 is now 22-13 this year and has registered his first grass court win of the season. He had lost his opening match at ‘s-Hertogenbosch to Adrian Mannarino.
The Aussie is 13-10 on grass and had triumphed in Eastbourne last year for his fifth career and first grass court title. He will be feeling better after the confident start Monday that ended a three-match losing streak for him. Can he keep the momentum going in the next round?

Fokina Overcomes Fellow Spaniard
World No. 44 Alejandro Davidovich Fokina ousted fellow Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas in straight sets on Monday.
The 23-year-old Davidovich Fokina made a bright start in the match, breaking Ramos-Vinolas twice to race to a 4-1 lead. But the senior pro fought back, winning the next four games to take it back on serve. However, Davidovich Fokina got the decisive third break in the 11th game before sealing the first set.
Davidovich Fokina broke the World No. 40 in the very first game of the second and then protected the lead to win the match 7-5, 6-4 in an hour and 23 minutes.
The Monte-Carlos Masters finalist is now 13-14 for the season. While grass hasn’t been his preferred surface so far, he will be looking to build on the first round win with another win on Wednesday.
