Solid Win For Khachanov Against Djere

Karen Khachanov defeated compatriot Aslan Karatsev in the first round and that was a solid win despite him needing three sets. He then faced Laslo Djere who is not a very good grass player because his game is tailor-made for clay tennis.

It was a shaky start for the Russian as he was down 5-2 with Djere serving for the opening set. Djere failed to serve it out once and then squandered a 40-15 lead at 5-4 to lose his serve once more. In the tiebreak, Khachanov proved slightly better and then he closed out the match 6-4 in the 2nd set.

It was a typical Khachanov match with good and bad moments but he was greatly helped by his opponent in this one. He was pretty solid on his 2nd serve which is usually not the case. It’s been a good run for him in Halle amidst a fairly decent 22-15 year.

The Russian is quite capable on grass even more so in Halle due to the specific conditions. He will certainly hope to book a semi-final here which would help him in many ways. The most important one would be the confidence department because so much revolves around it for him.

Another QF for Otte on Home Soil

Oscar Otte is having a superb season for his standards and he is on the cusp of breaking into the top 50 which seemed impossible a couple of years ago. The German has reached another quarter-final on native soil and he’s generally playing well at home and on grass.

Last year he had a great Wimbledon running into Andy Murray early but forcing him to play 5 sets. This year he is 4-1 on grass and 18-16 on the year. He will certainly fancy his semifinal chances, especially after such a brutal comeback win over Nikoloz Basilashvili. He lost a close opening set 4-6 but then smashed his opponent 6-0 in the next set.

After that, we saw a very competitive final set where Otte had to save a couple of break points until the tiebreak. In the tiebreak, he proved more composed than his opponent taking it and booking a quarterfinal. He did not have a great match serving hitting his first serve only 50 % of time. When he did he won 87 % of those points.

He essentially dropped only six points behind his first serve in a match that lasted two hours. That’s impressive and had he hit it more frequently it would have probably lasted even shorter.

Khachanov v Otte Prediction and Tip

It’s quite obvious that Khachanov is the better and more complete player. However, he is also quite prone to dropping matches to players he should have won. I could easily see a way Otte beat him in this matchup especially if his serve is working better than so far.

Id’ argue that the German will get more free points on his serve than Khachanov if he hits the first serve more consistently. That’s a huge question though as I think Khachanov will win that stat. Basically, it’s on Otte’s racquet. He will be the aggressor most of the time and he plays well enough he might win. I’ll back him to do just that.

Tip: Otte to win: 6/4 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
