Garcia Advances in Straight Sets
Caroline Garcia reached her first grass court quarterfinal of the year by beating Russia’s Kamilla Rakhimova in straight sets in the Round of 16 of the Bad Homburg Open on Wednesday.
Garcia saved five of five break points in the first set and converted the only one that she held to go up by a set. Rakhimova did convert one of her two break points in the second set, she was broken twice by the Frenchwoman, who won the one-hour-and-29-minute contest 6-3, 6-4.
Ranked no. 75th in the world, Garcia had rallied from a set down to beat Belarus’ Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the opening round.
Garcia, who has won two of her seven WTA titles on grass, has struck a combined of 25 aces in her first two rounds.
She had won her opening round matches in Nottingham and Birmingham this year but had fallen in the second round of both the tournaments.
Garcia will be aiming to reach a second semifinal of the season after reaching that far in Lyon earlier this year.

Lisicki Into First QF in Four Years
Playing her first WTA tournament since Bogota in 2019, 2013 Wimbledon finalist Sabine Lisicki continued her surprise run with a second win of the tournament on Wednesday.
Thanks to her victory over Belgium’s Greet Minnen, the German has advanced to her first WTA quarterfinal since the Taiwan Open in 2018.
Lisicki had begun her Bad Hamborg campaign by defeating compatriot Tamara Korpatsch 6-4, 7-6 (7-5). The win was her first victory on the tour since September 2018.
Building on that start, the former World no. 12 defeated World no. 89 Minnen 6-3, 2-6, 6-2. Lisicki converted one of eight break points in the first set and two of three in the third. She also had two chances to break the Belgian in the second, but she couldn’t capitalise on them, while Minnen got both her breaks in the second set.
Lisicki has a solid 53-26 overall record on grass (including all levels). Can she extend her dream comeback?
Garcia v Lisicki Prediction and Tip
While Garcia will hold the edge she will be wary of a resurgent Lisicki. Expect the German to fight but the Frenchwoman to advance.
