Garcia in her Second SF of the Season

Caroline Garcia reached her first grass-court semifinal of the year by beating Germany’s resurgent star Sabine Lisicki 6-3, 7-6(9). In the preceding rounds, she dismissed the likes of Aliaksandra Sasnovich and Kamilla Rakhimova.

This marks just her second semifinal of the year and the third one since the start of 2021. Her last elite-four stint came in Lyon in March where she defeated Camila Giorgi, Martina Trevisan, and Alison Van Uytvanck. Before that, it was in Lausanne last July.

Caroline has been visibly struggling on the tour over the last couple of seasons; her serious lack of results knocked her out of the top 70 down to #75 at the moment. Her tally of the season stood at 9-11 before her current streak in Germany.

Of course, that doesn’t mean Garcia is a bad player. As a former world number four with 10 singles finals (two titles on grass), the 28-year-old is more than capable of delivering impressive results.

Case in point, she won the French Open doubles with Kristina Mladenovic in a bid to build her form and rhythm. That said, her litany of losses this season doesn’t exactly inspire confidence and the precedent is set for Cornet to follow.

Cornet Impresses in Bad Homburg

Alize Cornet is having herself quite a week in Germany as she dispatched Anna Kalinskaya, Tatjana Maria, and former world number one Angelique Kerber on her way to the semifinal.

This is her first noticeable run since reaching the quarterfinal at the Australian Open this year where she delivered commanding victories against Garbine Muguruza, Tamara Zidansek, and Simona Halep.

Since then, however, Alize endured a rather disappointing rut – much similar to Garcia – and ended up losing early in the majority of her subsequent events. The exceptions to this are Charleston and French Open where she made it as far as round three.

The 32-year-old, now ranked World No. 44, arrived in Bad Homburg with a tally of 9-14. She does have a bit of momentum on the grass she was the doubles runner-up in the German Open with Jil Teichmann.

Cornet also has 14 singles finals to her name and is also a former #11.

Garcia v Cornet Prediction and Tip

This match can tilt either way. Both players are coming on the back of a harrowing season and have carved a decent turnaround this week. They are well-experienced and equipped to put up a fight. Expect a tight match.
