Alex De Minaur v Hugo Dellien Head to Head

De Minaur and Dellien have only faced off once before. That meeting took place at the Swiss Indoors in 2019 where the Aussie won in straight sets.

Australian Hopes Rest on De Minaur

In the absence of the now-retired Ashleigh Barty, Alex De Minaur will generate plenty of interest from the Australian faithful.

The 23-year-old arrives at Wimbledon on the back of another solid campaign on the grass courts. De Minaur reached the Round of 16 at Queens, losing narrowly to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. But he bounced back on his return to Eastbourne where he was the defending champion.

The Syndey native laid down a marker in his opening two rounds, beating Cristian Garin and the more accomplished grass courter Lorenzo Sonego in straight sets. De Minaur would then dig himself out of trouble in his quarterfinal match against Tommy Paul, needing to overcome the American in three sets.

But in the semifinals, he met his Waterloo as De Minaur’s title defense came to an abrupt halt against the big-serving Taylor Fritz. Despite the loss, De Minaur has put amassed four wins on the lawns, which is quite a decent return considering the brief grass-court swing in the calendar.

Dellien Seeks Rare Win on Grass

For clay-court specialists, switching surfaces from their beloved dirt to hard, or in this case the grass, is almost like changing professions.

Hugo Dellien, like De Minaur, will have a huge following back in his native Bolivia. Dellien is the country’s most prominent tennis player and has been a mainstay in the world’s Top 100 for a substantial period of time.

Dellien, however, has grown up playing clay-court tennis, as is the case with nearly all South American players. Biding his time on the ITF circuit and Challenger Tour in his earlier years, he forged a reputation as one of the best on the surface, winning a host of titles on clay.

The 29-year-old is no stranger when it comes to challenging his more established peers. He defeated Dominic Thiem at Roland Garros this past month, but worryingly, has not won another match since then, losing his last three on the trot. Can he snap that losing streak on Tuesday?

De Minaur v Dellien Prediction and Tip

Dellien has only ever played four matches on the grass in the pro tour, and none in the build-up to the 2022 Wimbledon Championships. An upset is simply not happening here.

Tip: De Minaur to win AND under 27.5 games: 6/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
