As we were writing this preview, Taylor Fritz was preparing for his second final of the season. The American, who had won the Indian Wells title this year, had reached the Eastbourne final on Friday with a three sets win over Alex de Minaur.
Ranked no. 14 in the world, Fritz had an ordinary start to the 2022 grass season, falling in the opening rounds in ‘s-Hertogenbosch and the Queens Club. But wins over Thiago Monteiro, Alexander Bublik and De Minaur lifted him to the Eastbourne Open final for the second time in his career. He had won the first title of his career in Eastbourne in 2019.
He has second title success came this year when he defeated Rafael Nadal in the Indian Wells final for his first ever ATP 1000 title.
This will be his sixth main draw appearance at Wimbledon. He has never gone past the third round, having reached that far last year. A win for Fritz over Maxime Cressy in the Eastbourne final on Saturday will be a huge confidence booster for him heading into the third slam of the year.

Focus on Musetti’s Fitness
Lorenzo Musetti has played just three matches on grass at any level and the Italian has lost all of them.
The World No 71, who lost in the opening round on his Wimbledon debut last year, made first round exits from Stuttgart and Queen’s this year, falling to Nikoloz Basilashvii and Alexander Bublik respectively.
He was forced to retire from the match against Bublik at Queen’s after he injured himself following a bad fall. Bublik helped him get up on his feet but the Italian could not continue and had to retire while trailing 3-6 in the match.
The big question remains if the 20-year-old would regain complete fitness for the opener. Musetti brings a 13-14 season record into the tournament. He had a decent run on clay, but can he deliver on grass as well?
Fritz v Musetti Prediction and Tip
Fritz is coming into the tournament in solid form, while Musetti, having never won on the surface is recovering from an injury. The American will be an overwhelming favourite. Expect him to win in straight sets.
