Halep last won a Grand Slam at Wimbledon in 2019, and it was also her last appearance in a match at this hallowed tournament.
She will now return to this competition in the hope she can get going again, and while there are no ranking points for this competition, a strong showing could help Halep return to her best.
Which is what had been on show over the two grass court competitions that Halep played in, in the lead-up to this Wimbledon.
She reached the semifinal at Birmingham where she was knocked out by Beatriz Haddad Maia and then again in Bad Homburg, Halep reached the last four. Unfortunately for her, she had to retire from that match against Amanda Anisimova because of a neck injury.
Halep would hope the injury isn’t serious enough but for now it does look like just a precautionary pull-out rather than anything else.

Muchova Hoping to Continue with Wimbledon Love Affair
She might have dropped out of the top 80 in the rankings but it must be quickly remembered Muchova’s best performances have come at Wimbledon. The once-world-number 19 has reached the quarterfinal at this tournament twice in her career and at her last two appearances.
In 2019, Muchova had stunned Karolina Pliskova to find herself a spot in the last eight on what was her Wimbledon debut.
And Muchova followed it up with another such appearance in 2021, with a victory over Paula Badosa to boot – making her only the third woman’s player to make it to successive Wimbledon quarterfinals on their first two appearances in London.
Things have tapered off a tad since then with Muchova having struggled with injuries but a third round appearance in Miami and at the French Open should fill her with some hope.

By any stretch this is a difficult opener for Halep and while she starts off 3/10 to win it, there could be questi0n-marks on this. Expecting Muchova to put up a solid fight.
