Cori Gauff finds herself reaching new heights on the WTA Tour; she is 23-12 this season and although she hasn’t won a singles title yet, she has reached her career-best ranking as #12.
The 18-year-old American has been absolutely brilliant in her last couple of tournaments – the runner-up feat in the French Open and a semifinal stint in the Grass Court Championships Berlin. In these two events alone, Gauff dismissed tennis veterans like Elise Mertens, Sloane Stephens, Martina Trevisan, and Karolina Pliskova to assert her dominance on the tour.
Cori was just as impressive on the hard courts – which only further proves her ability as a versatile player. Her highlights there entail a final-four feat in Adelaide and a quarterfinal streak in Doha.
As for her performance at the Wimbledon, she has reached the fourth round in her last two attempts – there is no reason why it may not be the case again.

Ruse, in Rut
In stark contrast, Elena-Gabriela Ruse, age 24, hasn’t had a season half as this impressive.
Her tally is 13-13 although, that was enough to help her make a top 60 debut at World No. 51. Her last two tournaments on grass were highly uneventful as she fell early in Birmingham (to Shuai Zhang) and Eastbourne (to Lauren Davis).
Ruse’s entire season is marked with these early losses; the handful of victories she did experience came in the qualifying/opening round fixtures. The Romanian’s best tour result this year includes reaching the round of 16 in Sydney and Dubai 500, and the Italian Open – all as a qualifier.
In one of these events, Elena-Gabriela did register a brilliant win over the world number four Paula Badosa but that hasn’t quite translated into consistent results.
Gauff v Ruse Prediction and Tip
Expect Gauff to win this one in straight sets; she has the momentum and form needed to easily dismiss Ruse. After all, her game is improving technically by the day and she is also learning to take things easy rather than succumb to the pressure of being a prodigy.
