It is almost unheard of for Alison Riske to lose three successive matches on her favorite surface. The American will be looking to stop the rot in the first round of Wimbledon when she takes on Swiss debutant Ylena In-Albon.
Riske’s three-match losing streak stems from the finals defeat to Haddad Maia in Nottingham, where despite hauling herself back into the contest, could not prevent a three-set loss to the in-form Brazilian.
However, it is not defeat to Haddad Maia that is cause for concern. Being bundled out of Birmingham and Eastbourne in the first hurdle is what will likely push the alarm button. Riske was priced at low odds in matches against both Katie Boulter and Magda Linette, and still fell.
Riske can struggle for consistency at times, but she has a knack for putting together some commendable runs at the most prestigious tournaments. In 2019, she made the quarterfinals of Wimbledon for the first time, shortly after winning titles in Surbiton and Den Bosch.

In-Albon Set for Wimbledon Debut
Ylena In-Albon was ascending the global ranks of women’s tennis three years ago. She cracked the world’s Top 200 at the time and had played in three qualifying draws at Grand Slam level.
But following a major slump in the second half of the 2019 season in which she won two of her last 14 matches, that is where the problems started. The following year Covid 19 struck and the Swiss talent’s ranking suffered mightily.
At the start of 2021, In-Albon dropped outside the world’s Top 400. But after a remarkable season on the ITF tour, in which she collected four titles and won an impressive 56 matches, she has managed to get her career and ranking back on track.
The 23-year-old Swiss is currently ranked at No. 110 in the world and earns a direct entry at Wimbledon for the first time.
