Tomljanovic Tames Teichmann

Ajla Tomljanovic did not face any significant difficulties in starting her 2022 Wimbledon campaign with a breezy, 6-2, 6-3 win over the number 18 seed Jil Teichmann. The Aussie needed a little under 80 minutes to bag the win with a 73% first service win rate and just 23 errors to Teichman’s 34.

A quarterfinalist in last year’s edition, Ajla will hope to emulate a similar streak but her troubles are likely to increase from the next round.

She may run into Barbora Krejcikova next, followed by the top seed Iga Swiatek in the fourth round. Plus, the 29-year-old hasn’t had the most convincing of the seasons with her tally at 15-16.

Tomljanovic’s best runs include quarterfinal runs in Rabat, Istanbul, and Nottingham with her overall losses coming against players ranked all over the top 100.

Harris Outlasts Rus

Catherine Harris, a 28-year-old American qualifier, defeated Arantxa Rus of the Netherlands 6-1, 6-4 to reach the biggest singles round of her career.

She did not feature in any of the preceding two majors and spent the majority of her time on the singles ITF circuit. Harris did play in a handful of tournaments – Monterrey, Charleston, Italian Open, Rabat, and Birmingham – and lost in the qualifying/opening rounds.

As a result, she is now ranked at #262 while in doubles, she has seen some success. Catherine is No. 74 there, armed with a doubles title in Monterrey this season with Sabrina Santamaria.

With no experience and substantial WTA tour experience to boast of, things may not be easy for Harris. That said, she has a bit of ITF momentum and has played a fair bit of tennis. She should be able to put up a fight with Tomljanovic.

Tomljanovic v Harris Prediction and Tip

Tomljanovic is the favourite here but as we all know, stranger things have happened in Grand Slams. Harris has the precedent ahead of her to build upon, but she will need to bring her best game when she takes on the Aussie.

The match makes for a good handicap bet opportunity while for those seeking safer bets, Tomljanovic is the way to go.
