Shapovalov Survives 1st Round Scare

Denis Shapovalov barely survived a very close encounter with Arthur Rinderknech at Wimbledon. He opened well taking the opening set 6-1 but then lost the next two in two tiebreaks. He was down a break in the 4th but he battled back to win ti 6-4 and then cruised in the final one 6-1 as well.

Shapovalov has endured one of the worst spells of his career losing matches left and right. The Canadian played his final good match in Rome against Nadal when he beat him. Since then it’s been absolute shambles for him but he’s back to winning here.

He played superb tennis last year at Wimbledon and there is some comfort level between him and Wimbledon. The semifinal last year was notable and he was rather strong again in round one.

He dropped only a handful of points behind his first serve but his opponent was even better. That’s why it took him five sets to win.

First Wimbledon Win for Nakashima

Brandon Nakashima has played some solid tennis recently with a good show at Roland Garros and a good showing on some grass events after that. His best tennis is not on grass but he can certainly played well.

Getting a qualifier in round one helped although he did slip up in one set. Nakashima was pretty solid overall nto allowing much and serving rather well. He balanced winners and errors quite well and simply outplayed his opponent in crucial moments.

He will need something even better against Shapovalov whom he never faced. His return will need to be strong and his serving on point.

There is much optimism with this youngster as he’s 8-3 on grass this year and 19-16 overall. He is progressing and soon will be a top 50 player.

Shapovalov v Nakashima Prediction and Tip

Denis Shapovalov is the better player obviously but he will need to work hard to get this done. Nakashima won’t give him many free points and if the Canadian slips up a few times he will certainly take the chance. They never played against each other so this is obviously something new for both.

Shapovalov looked quite good in the opening round and I have no reason to doubt him. After all, he played in the semifinal here and I think he can make another deep run. Take the Canadian.

Tip: Shapovalov to win in four sets: 7/2 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
