Norrie Trounces Johnson

Cameron Norrie reached the fourth round of a Grand Slam for the first time in his career after the World no. 12 scored a convincing straight sets win over America’s Steve Johnson on Friday.

The ninth seed Briton, who saved all three break points in the match, held 21 break points and he capitalised on six of them to beat Johnson 6-4, 6-1, 6-0.

The victory came two days after a terrific turnaround against Jaume Munar. Norrie had won the first set, but the Spaniard had come back to win the next two, before Norrie turned the tables on the Spaniard to win 6-4, 3-6, 5-7, 6-0, 6-2.

Norrie had beaten another Spaniard, Pablo Andujar, in the first round, needing just three sets to win 6-0, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3.

The Briton, who won two titles from six finals last year, has won two titles from three finals in 2022.

He lifted the trophy in Delray Beach and Lyon and was the runner-up in Acapulco this year. Friday’s win improved him to 30-15 this season.

Having performed well in the other tournaments, he will now be hoping to reach a maiden major quarterfinal and it would be only fitting for him to do it in front of home fans.

Paul Continues to Dazzle on Debut

Tommy Paul had never won a tour-level match on grass before this season, but the American has exhibited superb form on the surface this year. The World no. 32, who is making his debut at Wimbledon this year, had come into the tournament with back-to-back quarterfinal appearances at Queen’s Club and Eastbourne.

He has carried that form into the major, reaching the fourth round without dropping a set. The 30th seed kicked off his maiden campaign at the All England Club with a 6-1, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) victory over Fernando Verdasco.

While he was broken twice in the first round, he has not been broken in the next two. Paul defeated Adrian Mannarino 6-2, 6-4, 6-1 in Round 2 and then ousted the Czech Republic’s Jiri Vesely 6-3, 6-2, 6-2.

The win over Vesely on Friday, saw Paul save all seven break points that he faced and convert 5 of 9. The 25-year-old is now 23-16 this year and 7-3 on grass. He has reached as many as six quarterfinals this year. Can he reach a seventh on Sunday?

Norrie v Paul Prediction and Tip

While Paul has been playing well, his run may end on Sunday as he runs into the local favourite. Norrie is in good form and is also enjoying great support. Expect him to reach the last eight.
