Anna Kalinskaya v Magdalena Frech Head to Head
The H2H record is 1-1 with both their encounters being played in 2017. Frech won the match on clay while Kalinskaya won the other on outdoor hard which was also a final for the Obidos ITF tournament.

Anna Kalinskaya has been playing a very high level of tennis in certain periods of her matches but has been unable to convert them to wins. She is 17-14 on all surfaces this year.
Kalinskaya was going through a rich vein of form, reaching the third round in both the Masters of Indian Wells and Miami as a qualifier. She also reached the semifinal of WTA Monterrey in February which has been her best tournament all year.
Despite having some quality results on hard court, she has been miserable on clay with a 2-5 record.
She played the WTA Lausanne tournament last week and was a break of serve up in the third set against eventual finalist Olga Danilovic. In line with her recent erratic pattern, she was unable to close out the match.
In 2016, Kalinskaya won 35 matches on clay, all at ITF level. However since then, her record on clay is below average and she might continue to struggle against a very talented Frech.

Frech Returns to Hamburg with Career High Ranking
Polish rising star, Magdalena Frech will make her second appearance in Hamburg having reached the second round last year. She had fallen to Dayana Yastremska last year.
Frech has reached a career high ranking of 86. Aged 24, she was tipped to be a major breakthrough for the past two years and only this year she has really made it count at the WTA tour level.
She is 6-6 on clay this season. She reached the semifinal of WTA Saint-Melo and the quarterfinal of WTA Paris in the build up to the French Open.
Frech will be playing her first match since Wimbledon where she reached the third round and lost to Simona Halep. She is in good form and shouldn’t be much impacted by the surface change.

Kalinskaya was hitting some flashy winners in Lausanne but her serve broke down in the third set. Frech is a very good defensive player and can suffocate Kalinskaya to play a high number of unforced errors.
