Tallon Griekspoor played back home last week and he played spectacularly winning 5 matches and taking home the Amersfoort trophy. The Dutch player is showing that he truly belongs on the ATP Tour after playing on the Challenger Tour for a while.
In his first full season, he is 26-15 overall with some solid wins and performances. In Hamburg he had another one playing against Holger Rune and beating him in two close sets. It’s an impressive win against a very solid player albeit Rune has struggled for a while now.
The Danish player did not win a match since leaving Paris so while impressive it was somewhat expected. This is obviously a very strong part of the season for Griekspoor.
He is playing excellent tennis and he is feeling very confident after the trophy last week. A solid draw here might give him a chance to go deep but it will come down to how he plays. He served well against Rune so that’s another crucial thing going well for him lately.

Coric Shines Against Djere
Borna Coric is finally back to playing regular tennis after battling an elbow injury for a very long time. The Croatian is a tremendously talented tennis player whose best is probably top 15 material. He’s far away from it as he has to find his form again and that will only come by playing tennis.
He played some tennis this year but it’s not been that pretty with a 9-10 record. Some matches were rather good but it’s clear there is a lot of work to be done before he can consider himself truly back. Today was probably his best match in a very long time and it comes somewhat expectedly.
The final even he played before this one was about 20 days ago in Parma on clay and he smashed everybody en route to the trophy. It’s clear that gave him confidence because he did not lose hope today even after dropping the opening set 2-6 to Djere.
The Serbian is a strong clay player but Coric was able to outlast him in the 2nd set taking it in the tiebreak. He then broke him once more to win the final one 6-3 and move on. Let’s see how far he can ride this momentum.
Griekspoor v Coric Prediction and Tip
This is a truly fascinating matchup on paper between two players who are playing really good at the moment. Coric is the far better player overall but his level is not close to his best yet. He is pretty solid though so he will have chances in this one.
It will largely come down to how well Griekspoor plays. I think it will be a close one, I could also see a three-setter but I’ll back Coric. I was impressed with the comeback win over Djere.
