Aslan Karatsev v Daniel Elahi Galan Head to Head

Karatsev Impresses against Basilashvili

Aslan Karatsev needed just 61 minutes to record an impressive victory over the sixth seed Nikoloz Basilashvili to reach the second round of the European Open in Hamburg.

The Russian Karatsev, making his debut in Hamburg, won 6-4, 6-0 and dropped just 3 points in the 2nd set against the Georgian, who had won this event in 2018 and 2019.

Karatsev took advantage of 4 double faults from Basilashvili in the opening set, and was in ruthless form in the 2nd set, dropping just 3 of 27 points played.

The 2021 Australian Open semi-finalist is still looking to rediscover some of the form that saw him break the world’s top 20 for the first time last year, but recorded back-to-back victories in Bastad last week for the first time since January, and could repeat this feat on Thursday.

Despite his best results having been on hard courts, Karatsev has shown decent potential on the red dirt, recording victories last year over both Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev.

With three of the four seeds having already exited the tournament, Karatsev will fancy his chances of a deep run in Hamburg.

Galan Surprises Coria in Opener

Daniel Elahi Galan backed up qualifying for the European Open in Hamburg with a tight victory over Federico Coria in the opening round of the main draw.

The Colombian world number 113 has been dipping in and out of challenger tournaments for most of this year, but could be on the verge of a huge main tour run after beating Coria 7-6(4) 6-4 in round 1 in Hamburg.

Galan failed to convert 4 break points in Coria’s opening service game of the match, and despite neither player breaking each other’s serve, it was Galan who scraped through the tiebreak 7-4.

The Colombian broke early in the 2nd set and after failing to serve out the match at 5-2, he was successful in his 2nd attempt, taking it 6-4.

Galan is projected to break the world’s top 100 for the very first time next Monday, depending on some other results, but victory on Thursday could push him up to as high as 91 in the world.

However, he will certainly have his work cut out against a player ranked that far ahead of him.

Karatsev v Galan Prediction and Tip

Galan will be able to draw on the 3 matches he has already played in Hamburg, and that momentum could prove vital in a match where break point chances might be few and far between.

However Karatsev may be starting to turn a corner in his season, and considering the quality of opponent he has beaten before on clay, he will be a strong favourite to advance to the last 8.

Tip: Karatsev to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
